 It is twenty two years after the Dark Lord fell and those that still support him and hold out false hope (there are very few left) are mostly in Azkaban (now under wizard rule) or on the run. Either seems to suit them fine and the wizarding community does not fear them like they once may have. The world seems in order more or less.
Hogwarts is drastically different. McGonagall as new headmistress has made quite a few changes, some radical, some less so, all met with resistance in the beginning and then general acceptance.
And like Hogwarts, the Wizarding world has changed as well. The world is knitting itself back together after the War and a lot is changing. Kingsley Shacklebot has been a beacon of hope for the wizarding community as Minister of Magic and he is trying to do better for the world, wizarding and muggle kind alike. Relationships between wizards and goblins are being repaired and new relationships between wizards and centaurs and wizards and merpeople are being formed. The views on creatures such as werewolves are being reevaluated and ultimately things are looking better for a more peaceful and tolerate environment. Friendships can be seen where no one would expect (most notably perhaps is the friendship that has slowly developed from mutual tolerance between Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy) and really the world seems to be getting over the War.
